“I woke up one morning half blind. The ophthalmologist said that there was no organic damage. Maybe I’d been looking too closely at pictures? And if I tried swapping them with long horizons?”

(Bruce Chatwin, 1996)

“If we were alone in the universe, it would be a real waste of space.”

They are among us, or at least they could be, you just need to look at things with a different perspective: our neighbour, the fields divided by the road we are on, the forest that’s always been a part of our life, the light that we see in the distance, it’s all a matter of sensitivity. They are among us or maybe they will come soon, and it would be wise to prepare for their arrival, train your eyesight, get used to their presence. They are among us, and it doesn’t take much to see it, just widen your horizons, look at the details that surround you, light becomes a story, a genre, a dimension. They are among us, and I have warned you.

The inspiration for my stories are my dreams and childhood nightmares, the woods behind my home, summer, Kubrick, Space 1999, E.T., The Dark Side of the Moon, Stephen King, my Fender Stratocaster, the telescope in my room and the star map on my wall, the 70’s, biking at night in the fields, the stars and, again, the stars…

They Are Among Us by Graziano Panfili was presented during Slideluck Roma.

Multimedia Tips

a. What program was used to create the multimedia?

I used Adobe Premiere.

b. How and why did you choose that music?

I’ve chosen that kind of music because of the particular atmosphere but also because it sounded good in relation with the motion pictures; it also had the right sound to remember the different concepts I expressed in my photography, such as: mystery, waiting, etc.

c. Tell us about the editing process when you think of a multimedia.

The editing was simple since the project “They are among us” has already a cinematic vision, which was predetermined during the shooting.

It was also very important to calibrate the “time” to give the right rhythm to the whole movie.
