In Ancient Greece people were believed to be only actors, playing roles written by powerful gods. Nowadays, mass media took the place of gods.

As a result of fast changing technological development that are shaping our lives and the invading presence of mass media, many people seem to feel disconnected from the world. Some seek refuge and create alternative realities for themselves. Some merely look for temporary escapes, by letting off steam. Some dress in costumes, play role games or pretend to be heroes from movies, games or Japanese cartoons.

We all find our ways to cope somehow.

This phenomenon can most notably be seen in highly developed countries, places where people rely more and more on technology in everyday life, where the mass media have had the greatest impact on people. These off-moments are what interest me in street photography. This project has been shot in places like New York, Berlin, Warsaw and Szczecin.

“Theater of Life” by Tomasz Lazar was presented during Slideluck Madrid IV.

Multimedia Tips

a. What program was used to create the multimedia?

I used Adobe Premiere.

b. How and why did you choose that music?

I listen to different kinds of music. What I really like is electronic and music from movies. I tend to remember soundtracks after watching a movie.  Thats how I found the song from the feature Constantine. For me it fits very well with the images from “Theater of Life”. They both build tension and a good atmosphere.

c. Tell us about the editing process when you think of a multimedia.

For me the editing process of a multimedia is totally different from still images. Here you have different layers. One is made of pictures, the other of music, and the third is about how they work with each other in telling the story. Additionally, the music guide the pace for the images changing.
