Presented at Slideluck Buenos Aires “En busca de un rostro” (In Quest of a Face), by Veronica Balduzzi, is a project that works with the combination of photography and music in order to tell a story. This is the story of a search, of intimacy, of a journey, and even of love. We can only see fragments of people, but never their faces. That thing we all know as the essential sign for identity is always obstructed by something else: not even the last portrait means the end of the quest.
a. What program was used to create the multimedia?
I edited the video in Final Cut Pro X, both image and sound. This is the program I usually use.
b. How and why did you choose that sound/music?
Since I had to tell a story in still pictures, I thought the best way of accounting for the tone was through the music. I edited the sound so that these pictures would come to life. To achieve this, I included ambience and rare sounds, mainly because I am interested in working with what may be happening off-camera, with what can’t be seen, and also I wanted to give the story a touch of fantasy.
c. Tell us about the editing process when you think of a multimedia.
I am very anxious and I like to edit the material by myself. I use to start working on the image, but I also prefer to have a previous idea of what the sound will be like. I love playing with the possibilities of edition, adding black or color spaces, or to cut when people may not be expecting it. I love the idea of the unexpected, and I also like to add fantastic or experimental elements that will make the world inside the multimedia unusual, different from our ordinary routine.
