Two white doves that were released by children standing alongside Pope Francis as a peace gesture have been attacked by other birds.
As tens of thousands of people watched in St Peter’s Square, a seagull and a large black crow swept down on the doves right after they were set free from an open window of the Apostolic Palace.
One dove lost some feathers as it broke free from the gull. But the crow pecked repeatedly at the other dove.
It was not clear what happened to the doves as they flew off.

In 1300 Pope Bonifacio VIII granted the “plenaria indulgenzia”, plenary indulgence to all those who would have visited for thirty times if romans, or fifteen if foreigners, to the basilica of San Pietro and San Paolo “fuori le mura”; the holy year would have taken place in the future every 100 years, then reduced to 50, then again 33 and at least every 25 years.

The holy year of 2016, exceptionally, is coming only after 16 years after the last one. 35 millions of tourists will visit Rome. Awaiting for them there is a city with a newly elected Mayor, Virginia Raggi (she’s the Rome first female mayor); the Catholic Church, not only with one Pope but two; anti-terrorism police looking for the Isis; citizens looking for parking; migrants awaiting for a future; mafia, actors, extras and walk-on.

Would be enough space for mercy? Who deserves it and for who?

This is a research about my city, its relation with religion, the fate. Then, at last, I talk about me.

Andrea Alessandrini is an Italian photographer, and this project was presented during Slideluck Rome.

a. What program was used to create the multimedia?

After Effects

b. How and why did you choose that sound/music?

The music, as the slideshow, was composed by my best friend and artist Raimondo Di Persio. Instead of a musical piece, we loved the idea of recording the background noise in San Pietro Square and the “click” of the camera. Everything masterly elaborated with the computer.

c. Tell us about the editing process when you think of a multimedia.

I wanted the editing to respect what I had already prepared to present the project, but also to exploit the multiple possibilities offered by a slideshow. As background colours we chose black and white to symbolize the Good and the Evil, and we maintained the approaching of some pictures that worked better together rather than as single images. Then the presentation was deliberately simple and linear.
