The Community Center (Casa del Popolo) is a type of social association that originated from the European experiences at the end of 19th century; it’s the proletarian dream of a place for the working-class’ culture and leisure. In Tuscany CDPs were born with a horizontal organization, often erected with voluntary and self-managed work.
Originally, these places where the “red subculture” came alive, had a central role in the community, being able to offer recreational and social services. Today, after the fragmentation of the left-wing parties, the CDPs are less and less politically focused, although still being an expression of a sharing culture and still in search of a new identity. As open and accessible as they are, the CDPs are a scenario for the transformation of the area, and are daily hosting the issues and necessities of the contemporary social fabric.
is a collective founded by Marina Arienzale and Matteo Cesari in Florence in 2014. Guided by a shared passion for Documentary photography and storytelling, they love to work on group and individual projects using their different individual practices, styles and social backgrounds as assets.
